During the High Holy Days, Food Lifeline provides holiday specific foods that include grape juice, apples and honey, to help ease the financial burden and strengthen the family.
Our dedicated volunteers work for a full two weeks to pack and distribute hundreds of food parcels containing supplies to last over the High Holy Days and through the Chag of Sukkot, allowing our recipients to enjoy these times with their families, and focus on a good year ahead.

“Things were not going smoothly for a couple of years, until the divorce finally happened, leaving me as a single parent to a 3 year old daughter. I moved out to live with my elderly parents, my income was not doing well and I was getting all the help possible from government benefits and community support. However, I was still unable to handle the single-mom responsibility, both financially and emotionally. On several occasions, I even skipped meals to ensure that my parents and daughter could eat.
When the Jewish New Year began, I was hoping that I could turn over a new leaf and provide my daughter with the life she deserved. The expenses of the holiday were exorbitant, so I had to turn to Food Lifeline. When Food LIfeline heard my plight, they gave me so much more than food support over the High Holy Days and Sukkot, to ‘keep our heads above the water’. With their unbelievable empathy and understanding of my needs, they helped me secure a well-paying job, enabling me to provide comfortably for my daughter.”
“It started without us realizing what was happening. After my wife gave birth to our 3rd child, we knew it would take time to get back to normal. But we didn’t immediately realize that her fatigue and inability to function, were actually due to severe postpartum depression. I was struggling to take care of my confused and anxious children while juggling full–time work. With Rosh Hashana around the corner, and an endless list of expenses, I felt as helpless as the sweet newborn in my arms.
Food Lifeline stepped in to save the day with their customized packages containing everything we needed, from basic staples to iconic festival foods and even baby supplies! That year we were actually able to celebrate, as a family, in the spirit of the High Holy Days. We will be forever grateful for your personalised care and consideration.”
